While the expert plumbers at JB plumbing in San Dimas serve the entire San Gabriel Valley, Inland Empire and Riverside County, we recently completed a slab leak detection and slab leak repair in the IE city of Rancho Cucamonga. But, wherever you live in Southern California, when it comes to leaks inside or outside of your home, we specialize in detecting water leaks, whether they are underground under floors, under slabs; inside walls, or even in ceilings. The size of the leak is immaterial. We can find the source of any leak – from a pinhole leak to a broken pipe, by using electronic leak detection equipment.
How to Spot water under the floor
We were recently responded to a customer who suspected she had a leak at her Rancho Cucamonga home. She and her husband were not aware of the source of the leak. But they spotted several signs that made them wary:
- Hot spots in the floor they spotted because their dog consistently avoided certain areas of the living room. They confirmed the hot spots by walking across the flooring themselves, and noticing that a certain area was hotter than the rest of their carpet.
- Higher than average water bills. Even though water bills are cyclical, a higher than average trend could signal a leak. So, pay attention to your water bills. If they start to spike for no apparent reason, call a plumber, who can use electronic leak detection equipment to identify whether the cause of the high bills relate to a leak in your home.
- Presence of a musty smell. At first, the Rancho Cucamonga couple thought that they had old clothes sitting in the washing machine. But when they cleaned out the washer as well as their dishwasher and the smell persisted, they knew that their house had a leak. But that leak was not visible, even when they walked around their entire home in search of the source.
- Dark spots on the wall that resembled mold. Near the hot spot in the Rancho couple’s living room, there was a patch of black on the wall. When it first appeared, they assumed it was a smudge from one of their pets. So, they cleaned it up with a Magic Eraser. But when it reappeared in the same spot, they knew they could be dealing with a serious leak behind the wall.
Fixing a Slab Leak
Realizing that they needed to quickly address the leak, they called JB Plumbing in San Dimas. We immediately responded and showed up at their house with our electronic leak detection device in hand. We used it to do underground water leak detection as well as underground slab leak detection. Using this equipment enabled us to identify the pinhole leak that was located under their slab.
Since slab leaks are serious, we got to work right away and quickly determined that the leak. The pinhole water leak had spread across their slab and encroached their wall. To repair the slab leak, we removed only the affected portion of the floor, so we didn’t have to destroy their entire living room. Since we are a general contractor, we repaired the leak, remediated the water damage and replaced the damaged carpet, sub-flooring and wall. The couple happily recommended JB Plumbing to their friends and family in Fontana, Diamond Bar and Glendora.
